Gyotaku Reflection
Gyotaku is a form in art that originated in Japan that involves painting a fish with ink, printing it with paper, and usually letting it go. It was used as "proof" of your catch, before the modern commodities of photos came about. Gyotaku was an eye opening experience for me, as it introduced a new medium of art. The process began with me painting a mold fish with ink. I used primarily orange ink to help contrast against the white paper, as well as mix in some yellow and red to give it a vibrant warm color. At first, i was skeptical how my fish turned out, and when I printed the fish, it left some water marks. I was able to help modify the water marks and blend them in with the fish by modifying it with a water color pencil. Soon, I met mounted the project on some rice paper and to a wooden board. While initially looking at it, I was still hard pressed to find it good in any way, however, when I took it off, my feelings changed a slight bit. Looking at it now, I consider it to be slightly above average, however, my issues with it still remain in the fact I used too much water in it. If I were to ever redo this project, I would most likely decrease the usage of water when painting the fish.

Color Wheel
The color wheel is a complex order of colors that form a wheel by having one color be made by two colors. For example, green is made by blue and yellow, which are both primary colors, which means they cannot be reproduced by two colors that aren't made from it. The mixing of Yellow and Blue makes Green, and on a graphic view, it looks as if its in a triangle manner. The first 3 set of colors are called primary colors, and are Blue, Red, and Yellow. 6 other colors are then made from these, called secondary colors. Tertiary colors come after the secondaries, and are formed by the mixing of two secondaries or one secondary and one primary.

Zentangle
A Zentangle is a form of art that involves drawing a pattern in a divided square. This form of art brings in a new perspective on drawings, as it shows a repetitive pattern can be drawn to look good. It also shows that even the oddities of shapes can look good if copy and pasted. Zentanles start out as a square, then 4 lines are drawn to divide up the square. Patterns are made in the sections, along with secondary patterns. It was an interesting form of art for me, as it shed light on a practice I would never consider at usable in art, specifically drawing.

ECU Experience
A few weeks ago, the art class got the opportunity to visit ECU and get an in depth look at their art programs. I was amazed by the campus, and it got me interested in looking into ECU as a college. The art building was also fairly neat. we got to see a plethora of classes based around art, from clay modeling to using a 3D printer. My favorite section was the 3D printing area, especially since I am interested in using one for a future career. The main point I got out of this experience is that there are various mediums of art besides graphite drawing and painting. It opened a new variety of options towards me.

Drawing Assignment
Marbling and Stitching
In art class a few weeks ago, we learned the secrets of Marbling and stitch binding a book. The Marbling process begins with dumping water in a vat, before placing droplets of dye on the water. Because of the density of the dye, it would stay on top of the water for a decent amount of time. Then, you would drop a sheet of paper into the vat for a second or two, before pulling it out and getting a marbled paper. Then, you would bind two marbled pages with some sheets of paper in the middle to create the book. It was definitely a new experience for me, and I was almost astonished when I saw the outcome of both the marbled paper and the booklet.
